14 Content Ideas For Creatives
If you’re one if those people who understand the value of posting content but struggle to figure out what to post, trust you’re not alone. Every so often, I come to a roadblock, unsure of content ideas that can continue to engage my audience whether it be through grid posts or reels/videos. With that, here are 14 content ideas (for creatives of all disciplines) to make the process easier for you.
Reel/ Video Content Ideas
A Day in the Life of … (Insert Creative Discipline)
Everyone doesn’t know exactly what it’s like to be an illustrator, photographer, fashion designer, etc! This is the perfect way to show your audience exactly what your discipline entails. Do you wake up everyday at 8:00 AM? Do you have to grab coffee in order to start your day? What tasks go into being a creative of your kind? Show your audience what it’s like to live in a day in your life while you do what you love most.
Equipment Breakdown
You'd be surprised how many times people ask me what I use to create my art digitally. Since I’m so used to the process, I assume that everyone knows I use an iPad and Apple Pencil but that’s actually not the case. Providing a breakdown of everyday equipment that you use and even providing costs is a great way to inform your audience. If you use this content idea, make sure you tag the brands you’re mentioning (perfect opportunity for a potential partnership). You never know who will come across your content whether it be a beginner, looking for the perfect equipment or a talent recruiters looking for the perfect creative partner.
Ways You Find Inspiration
Everyone finds inspiration in different ways. You’d probably never guess that a lot of my inspiration comes from grocery store products or taking photos of signs and billboards throughout the city. Think about the ways which are unique to you (or common ones, too) and share them with your audience.
3 Things You Wish You Knew as a Beginner
There’s nothing like starting as a beginner in unfamiliar territory. We’ve all had to do it at some point in order to get to where we are now. Consider the top 3 things you wish you knew growing up and share them with others so that they can be a step ahead!
Process Timelapse
This is probably one of the most common content ideas I’ve seen from other creatives. Set up your computer or phone and get to work. Do what you normally do… but record it this time! You can either use the Timelapse feature on your phone or record the footage regularly and speed it up in a separate app once you finish.
Unboxing New Supplies
I’m always getting new supplies/equipment. Most recently, I got a new iPad, computer, computer case, ordered new stickers, built a tufting frame and so much more. Unboxing your equipment/supplies on camera is a fun way to bring your friends and fans along the process to creation alongside you.
Pre-Creation Routine
Consider the things you need to do in order to have a productive work day. Personally, that looks like cleaning my space. Before packaging prints, I have to declutter my table, wipe it down, throw some gloves on and turn on my favorite tunes to set the mood. Sometimes, if I’m really feeling fancy, I’ll even light a candle. When Im illustrating, I love to be a clean space and find a new TV show to watch on my favorite streaming platforms. Let us know what helps get you in the right headspace to create and why!
Grid Post Content Ideas
Compilation of Work by Theme
Share a compilation of your work with a common theme. For example, I’ve shared an example of all my past work that featured sneakers ranging from Air Jordan 1’s to Dunks and Air Maxes. Consider the common themes throughout your work: As a photographer, is there a common color incorporated into your work? As a fashion designer, do you commonly sew tops more than anything else? As a dancer, are the majority of your choreographies to a certain music genre? The common theme can truly be whatever you choose. Don’t be scared to get creative!
Artist Intro
As your audience continues to grow, there will be people who inevitably do not know much about you. Reintroducing yourself after a surge of new followers is the perfect way to familiarize yourself with your audience and vice versa!
Behind the Scenes Dump
We often times glamorize sharing the final product of what we’re working on but fail to realize the impact of sharing the work that went on behind the scenes. Sharing behind the scenes images personalizes the project in the way by providing access to your audience that they wouldn't have had you chosen not to share the content. It provides your audience with a glimpse into the hard work you put in and even helps them imagine how they can create something as impactful as well!
Recent Accomplishments
Sharing recent accomplishments can be useful for many reasons. For instance, your accomplishments may inspire your audience. It can also help you build credibility and legitimacy by sharing the amazing things you’re doing or build the connection to those who love your content by providing an opportunity for them to celebrate your wins with you. Sharing recent accomplishments is not about bragging. It’s simply about expressing the gratitude you have and reaping the fruits of the seeds you’ve sewn. Perhaps you want to use these kinds of posts to credit those who have helped you along the way and contributed to the opportunities you’ve been blessed to have. Write out a heartfelt caption or even keep it short and simple. It’s all up to you.
Mood Board Vs. Final Product
If you’re anything like me, you’re always creating mood boards as a foundation before you begin a project. Sharing the mood boards you’ve created enable others to see what once started as an idea, actually come to fruition.
Progress of Work Over the Years
Everyone has had to start somewhere and it’s fair to assume that your work has most likely improved over the years. Take a quick trip down memory lane and let everyone see your progress over time!
Show Your Workspace
Showing your workspace is essentially like an alternative version of a room tour for creatives. You may want to share your workspace while it’s clean or even mid project, it’s all up to how vulnerable you want to be. Perhaps you’d like to share specific aspects of your space like a gallery wall, a close up of where and how you store equipment/supplies or even a before and after before and midway through your craft!
